Interview answers

How to answer 'Why should we hire you?'

It is your closing argument, so make it count. Here is how to build a focused case around what the job actually needs, backed by evidence, and how to practise it.

Answer the job's top needs

This is your closing argument. Pull the two or three things the role most needs from the job description, and match each to concrete evidence from your experience.

Lead with proof, not adjectives

Anyone can say they are hard-working and reliable. Show it: a result you delivered, a problem you solved, a number you moved. Evidence beats self-description every time.

Name what makes you different

If there is a combination of skills or experience that few other candidates bring, say so plainly. This is the moment to make your unique fit obvious.

Keep it tight and confident

A rambling answer undercuts the message. Aim for a focused 60 to 90 seconds that leaves the interviewer with a clear reason to choose you.

Rehearse the close

It is your last chance to land the point, so it is worth practising. Run it in a real interview until it sounds confident rather than boastful or vague.

Ready when you are

Nail your closing argument.

Practise the case for yourself in a real interview and get feedback on where it can be sharper.
